Dynamics Seminar-Gibbs measures (IV)

Friday, 11/6/2020, 7:00pm - 11:59pm

Friday, November 6,  2pm to 3 pm on Zoom

Speaker: Lien-Yung (Nyima) Kao, GWU

Title: Gibbs measures (IV)

Abstract: In this week we will continue our discussion on Gibbs measures. In particular, we will focus on several important ergodic properties of the Gibbs measures.

Dynamics Seminar-Almost Anosov flows and the tilings they generate

Friday, 10/23/2020, 6:00pm - 11:59pm

Friday, October 23,  2pm to 3 pm on Zoom

Title: Almost Anosov flows and the tilings they generate

Speaker: Robbie Robinson, GWU

Abstract: The suspension of the Baker transformations constructed last week gives what we call an “almost Anosov” flow. One can also flow along the unstable direction from any point. The result is a "tiling flow" shares many properties with horocycle flows. There are striking tilings of the hyperbolic plane that simultaneously code both the tiling flows and the almost Anosov flows, and graphically depict the Markov partition.
