This meeting will be Friday, October 9, 2pm to 3 pm on Zoom
Title: Markov interval maps and almost Anosov flows
Speaker: Robbie Robinson, GWU
Abstract: We will discuss a family of piecewise linear maps of the interval that have a Markov partition with an absolutely continuous invariant measure, such that the density is constant on each partition element. The natural extension of these maps is a sort of Baker’s transformation in the plane. With an appropriate choice of return time function, the suspension flow (on a subset of R^3) is "almost Anosov"; a Smale flow (in the terminology of Mark Pollicott). It has a very strong Markov property. This is joint work with Natalie Frank of Vassar.
