Graduate Certificate Programs
A graduate certificate program can be invaluable for students who wish to supplement their undergraduate education with more mathematics work, position themselves for further study in a quantitative field or pursue careers in finance, economics or a related field. The Department of Mathematics offers two graduate certificate options: a Graduate Certificate in Mathematics and a Graduate Certificate in Financial Mathematics.
Certificate Options
Admissions Requirements
Applicants to the mathematics certificate programs should have completed required coursework:
- Multivariable Calculus (such as MATH 2233) and
- Linear Algebra (such as MATH 2184)
- Familiarity with formal mathematical proofs (as in, for example, Math 2971)
Applications must include transcripts from all colleges or universities attended (whether or not a degree was obtained) and one letter of recommendation that addresses the applicant's quantitative abilities. Students with undergraduate GPAs above 3.0 who meet all other admissions requirements are likely to be accepted.
A statement of purpose is not required; applicants should respond to that section by writing "not required."
Please note that international students who require a student visa from GW are not eligible to apply for admission to this program.
