Abstract :  In this talk, the mathematical quantification of microstructure's influence on the bulk properties of composite materials will be presented. The presentation will start from the static properties such as dielectric constants and end with the dynamic permeability of porous media. What links all of these results together is the theory of Herglotz (Stieltjes) functions. The focus will be on microstructure quantification and its ability of providing an efficient way for dealing with the memory term in the linear poroelastic wave equations.
