Title: Recovering algebraic curves from L-functions
Abstract: We discuss how to recover an algebraic curve over a finite field from L-functions associated with it. We look at the problem from a number of different angles, including the input coming from model theory, and pose some open questions. Joint work with J. Booher.

Dynamics Seminar-Almost Anosov flows and the tilings they generate
Friday, 10/23/2020, 6:00pm - 11:59pm
Friday, October 23, 2pm to 3 pm on Zoom
Title: Almost Anosov flows and the tilings they generate
Speaker: Robbie Robinson, GWU
Abstract: The suspension of the Baker transformations constructed last week gives what we call an “almost Anosov” flow. One can also flow along the unstable direction from any point. The result is a "tiling flow" shares many properties with horocycle flows. There are striking tilings of the hyperbolic plane that simultaneously code both the tiling flows and the almost Anosov flows, and graphically depict the Markov partition.

Dynamics Seminar-Gibbs measures (III)
Friday, 10/16/2020, 6:00pm - 11:59pm
This meeting will be Friday, October 16, 2pm to 3 pm on Zoom
Speaker: Lien-Yung (Nyima) Kao, GWU
Title: Gibbs measures (III)
Abstract: In this week we will continue our discussion on Gibbs measures. We will prove the Ruelle’s Perron-Frobenius Theorem and discuss ergodic properties of the probability measure derived from it.
