Graduate Certificate in Mathematics: Admission Requirements, Application Information, and Tuition

Admission Requirements

  • BA or BS degree from an accredited institution
  • Math 2233 (Multi-Variable Calculus) and Math 2184 (Linear Algebra I), or equivalent course work.

Material Required for Admission

  • GW graduate application form,
  • Official copies of all undergraduate transcripts,
  • Undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0 or one letter of recommendation from a professor in a quantitative field,
  • $75 application fee.

NOTE: Neither GRE scores nor statements of purpose will be required. TOEFL requirements will follow GW policy. In the event that an applicant’s GPA is above 3.0, a letter of recommendation is not required. An applicant whose GPA is below 3.0 will not be rejected automatically. However, a letter of recommendation is not sufficient for admission. The transcripts must demonstrate that the applicant is academically prepared for the program. The Department’s Graduate Committee reviews all applications and makes the admission’s decision on a case by case basis.

A transcript is required from each college and university attended, regardless of whether or not a degree program was completed. Copies of transcripts must be uploaded to the online application.  We will request official transcripts only if you are admitted.  If academic records are in a language other than English, please upload the English translation only.

When filling out an application, applicants with a GPA 3.0 or above should enter their name into the name fields of the recommendation form. For Statement of Purpose, applicants can respond by entering NOT REQUIRED.
